Last
lesson
1.
Franz was the student. He was not
interested in studies.
2.
He did not want to go to school as he had
not completed his home assignment of learning participles.
3.
When he reached school he noticed that
the school was quiet as Sunday morning.
4.
Mr. M Hamel, his teacher was wearing his formal
dress that he used to wear only on special occasions.
5.
Some villagers were sitting at the back
benches to pay their tribute to Mr. M Hamel for his sincere services of 40 years
6.
Mr. M Hamel announced that it was his last
lesson because the order had come from Berlin to teach German in place of
French.
7.
It was a shock to little Franz. Suddenly
he started loving his books. He forgot all about the cranky nature of Mr. Hamel
and started respecting him. He felt guilty for not giving proper attention to his studies.
8.
Mr. Hamel told that they all are responsible for the grave(bad)
condition of their mother tongue. Villagers took their children to the farmhouse
and workplaces. Students were also not serious. He also blamed himself for not
giving full attention. He himself send them to water the plants and sometimes
took holidays for fishing.
9.
As a true teacher and the patriot Mr.
Hamel told them that their language is the key to their prison (the best weapon
to fight against the slavery of Germans) .It is the best, the most logical and
the clearest language of the world.
10.
At last Mr. M Hamel wrote “VIVE LA FRANCE”(Long
live France)on the blackboard and took leave.
